Obama/Hillary 2008 Comments 3 Comments

4 weeks, 1 day ago

American politics are fun! Say about Hillary what you will, but she’s helped make it more fun by putting up a fight. Naïve idealist as I am, I’d love to see both on the bill for November. It would be like Batman vs. Superman: you know they’d fight in the beginning until they realize who the true enemy is. Penny for your thoughts?

Hillary Clinton Is Your New HD-DVD Player Comments 5 Comments

Apparently, Hillary Clinton seems to be going the way of the HD-DVD. To the annals of history, that is. Does that make you sad?

Political Match-O-Matic Comments Comment

January 2nd, 2008

For the American readers about to engage in election, ABC News has a political match-maker that should help you find your candidate. I’m always bogged by the actual amount of candidates outside of the republican/democrat two-party setup; it’s just sad that voting on one of them would most likely be throwing away your vote.

August 15th, 2007 ,

Today is the big day for likers of clean air: the first day of the danish public smoking ban. That means no smoking in:

busses, schools and institutions
locations accessible to the public such as museums

all workplaces, with exceptions possible in one-man offices

indoor food serving places

In all above cases there’s the possibility of assigning designated smoking areas. [...]

Strike 9/11 Comments 11 Comments

August 13th, 2007

Some time in March 2003 Bush started the war on Iraq. It was all about fighting back at Al Quaeda for what they did in September 2001, oh and also disarming Saddam of all those nuclear weapons he had bought in Africa.

There weren’t any ties to Al Quaeda, and so far they haven’t found any nukes. Or chemical weapons. Or anything.

April 27th, 2007 ,

A tyrant is always stirring up some war in order that the people may require a leader.
- Plato

The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them that they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and [...]

Bloggers Code of Conduct: Should We Censor Ourselves? Comments 13 Comments

April 11th, 2007 , ,

When Tim O’Reilly drafted a Bloggers Code of Conduct, it sent waves through the so-called blogosphere. While O’Reilly encourages open discussion on this draft, it begs the question: do we even need a code of conduct at all?

Bring On The Public Smoking Bans Comments 55 Comments

January 14th, 2007 ,

Smoking is evil. It always has been. Fortunately it seems, times are changing — public smoking bans are on the horizon. Some countries have already adopted them, like Ireland and Sweden. Backwater countries, like Denmark, are slower to catch the scent of the times. That scent is fresh air.

Ted Haggard: Christian Conservative, Hypocrite [Update] Comments 17 Comments

November 6th, 2006 , ,

This last year, it’s become increasingly clear to just how much religion permeates the fabric of society. In my experience, for the worse. Ethical issues that require us to rise above our animal instincts of vendetta and fear have become religious and political questions of “moral values”. In the words of Karl Marx:

Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people.

Danish PM Admits Faults In Iraq Strategies Comments Comment

October 25th, 2006 , ,

Sitting here with the morning coffee, waiting for the rhythm of the day to settle in, I’m reading in the newspaper. It says that Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the danish Prime Minister who unilaterally chose for Denmark to participate in the Iraq war, admits the invasion strategy had it’s faults and shortcomings.

It’s roughly 3? years since the war started, March 18th 2003. Like many others, I thought it would be a bad idea. Turns out we were right and the people we elected weren’t. How is it this happens more and more often? To date, the war has cost the lives of 5 Danes, 2804 Americans, $336,999,380,179 and maybe as much as 600.000 Iraqis. I’d say that’s bad planning.
