An Inconvenient Truth Mini-Review

Reviews are spoilerfree but beware of comments.

Al Gore used to be the next president of the United States of America. That is, until a court ruled in favor of the conservative choice.

In his movie, An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore presents undeniable research and facts that point to … well … the inconvenient truth that global warming is a clear and imminent threat.

The message of the movie is well understood and received by yours truly - everyone should see this movie for that reason alone. With regards to the movie, it’s scary in an all too realistic way, well-directed, well-cut and generally a very watchable movie. It is, however, a bit too simplistic in its message at times, hence “only” four hearts.

  1. I think you would also like State of fear by Michael Crichton. Although it is a thriller novel, it does provide scientific references for all its claims. I still view it as an opinion piece, then again, that’s what I think An inconvenient truth is. State of fear has not convinced me one way or the other, but it does make you think, which is good.

  2. I’ll look up on that State of fear. I’ve liked Chrichton in the past. But isn’t he a fiction writer?

I still view it as an opinion piece

As opposed to a documentary? In what way, as in “there is no global warming”, or “the facts are exaggerated to support Gore’s cause” or “it’s worse than Gore claims”?

I personally consider it a documentary, and I believe the gist of the facts that were presented, meaning most of it.

  3. I was not speaking of the movie, I still haven’t seen it. It is State of fear that I view as an opinion piece. Basically, Crichton says that there is no global warming all wrapped up in a quite good thriller. Different from most other fiction novels, Crichton has scientific references for all his claims.

  4. Ah, okay. That book sounds really interesting. I might pick it up soon, I’m overdue for an Amazon shopping spree anyway. I’ll also be picking up Pandoras Star, Judas Unchained and Children of the Mind.
