Blade Runner: Final Cut Comments Comment

May 27th, 2006 , ,

For a long time, fans of Blade Runner have waited anxiously and nervously for a promised “final cut” of the movie. The cut, which should be darker and closer to the original vision of the director, has long been caught in limbo due to copyright reasons. It seems now, finally, things are starting to happen.

The restored “director’s cut” will debut on home video in September and will remain on sale for only four months, after which time it will be placed on moratorium. Blade Runner: Final Cut will arrive in 2007 for a limited 25th-anniversary theatrical run, followed by a special-edition DVD with the three previous versions offered as alternate viewing. Besides the original theatrical version and director’s cut, the expanded international theatrical cut will be included. The set will also contain additional bonus materials.

Tagging Noscope Comments 11 Comments

May 23rd, 2006 , , ,

Preparing for my redesign, I have started tagging Noscope. Using the extremely well-made Ultimate Tag Warrior I have already tagged the first 16 some pages of Noscope, but there’s still a long way to go.

For a long time, I’ve been reluctant to start using tags. I’ve found categories to be more intuitive, and tags to be simply visual clutter. Yet lately I’ve been warming up to the fact that tags can help you discover relationships between two seeming unrelated topics. What’s your take on tags / labels?

Note: The tag addition to Noscope is currently rather basic, but it’ll be built into my Pangea redesign.

Update: All tagged. Going over the 500+ posts, I also noticed a myriad of dead out-links, and throngs of redundant dated info. I must have deleted more than 50 posts during this process. Now, enjoy such tags as reviews, or maybe even inspiration.

Pangea: A Challenge Comments 28 Comments

Pangea is the title of the upcoming design for Noscope. For this redesign, I will be needing a plain DIV box to place content in. In my mockups, the box looks like this:

It’s a fairly straight-forward box with four borders and an angled top-right corner. The markup looks like this:

<div class="box">
content

</div>

Now for the challenge: not [...]

Flickr Redesigns Comments 6 Comments

It seems everybody and their neighbours favourite photobucket, Flickr, has been redesigned ever so slightly. Upon randomly visiting my photostream, I noticed photo-albums are now right aligned, the photo homepage has two columns of photos, the top menu has been adjusted, and Flickr is now out of beta… It’s now Flickr gamma. Clever.

There Is No Such Thing As Talent Comments 15 Comments

There is no such thing as talent. Talent is greek for “divine gift”, and since I do not believe in anything divine, I do not believe in predisposed skills. Hard work, persistence and interest can get you anywhere, though.

Casino Royale: Prequel? Remake? Comments 42 Comments

May 4th, 2006 ,

There’s a brand new trailer for the next Bond Movie out: “Casino Royale“. If you have just the vaguest of interest in Bond (think back to the Connery days), you’ll probably be as puzzled as I am. A quote from the trailer:

James: So you want me to be half monk, half hit-man?
M: I knew it was too early to promote you.

James: Well I understand the double-o’s have a very short life expectancy.

To me this sounds like the very recruitment of Bond. Chronologically this puts it before all the existing Bond films, which might explain the title; “Casino Royale” is the title of the first Bond-novel by Ian Fleming. Yet, Judi Dench still plays the character of M, like she did in Die Another Day.

So, what have we here: a prequel? A sequel? A new 007 agent who by coincidence is also named “James Bond”? Or are we looking at a remake / re-launch of the Bond franchise?
