In which I wish you happy holidays and a great new year.
This weekend, it seems, Michael “Binary Bonsai” Heilemann has enabled what could be called “Rolling Archives” on his website. The result is what I think is the best use of AJAX for a weblog yet. To see it, go to his website, scroll to the bottom, and click the left arrow below the “Archives” header.
It’s a relevant, very useful and immediately “pick-up-able” tool for viewing the archives. Go on: prove me wrong.
Christmas is here again, with all the woes and blessings it brings.
At Titoonic, we wish you all (except the brats!) a merry one.
My sister gave me The Da Vinci Code a while back. I’d say it was before the hype really got hold and as such I simply enjoyed the book, immensely. The book is not ground-breaking by any means, but it’s a great action-adventure and there are some good plot twists to rattle your brain.
Now the trailer for the upcoming movie-version by Ron Howard is here. The film stars the likes of Tom Hanks, Audrey Tatou, and Paul Bettany. While I’ve never been a fan of neither Tom Hanks or Ron Howard, the film looks pretty true to the book (which already seemed like a film script anyway).
Yet, the book discusses some fairly sensitive aspects of the christian church and the foundation of Christianity; if the film will truly be true to the book, it’s a fair bet it’ll generate some outrage in much the opposite way the Passion of the Christ did.
What are your thoughts? Have you read the book?
Along with “Paste”, “Copy” is one of the keyboard shortcuts I use the most. I find myself sometimes re-using the same lines of code or CSS, and pasting them in a notepad document for quick access.
There has to be a better way. I know Office has tried (and failed as far as I know), to create a clipboard manager that allowed you to store and retrieve several items. Now I’m looking for something that’s easy to use, and works globally in Windows. Your advice is welcome.
Update: CLCL does everything I need! My warmest recommendations. I use ALT + V as my manager shortcut.
I gave blood at my local bloodbank yesterday. It was a tiny prickle that yielded half a litre of blood. It turns out I’m B-positive, which is 8% of the population. As I looked at the sheet of percentages it hit me that people shouldn’t stay away from the blood-bank thinking that their bloodtype is common and therefore unnecessary: it just means the same percentage will need that particular bloodtype.
Have you ever given blood? Why? Why not?
I saw Joss Whedon’s Serenity yesterday. I didn’t intend to see the movie, quite simply because the TV Series never caught my attention and the title sounds like a chick flick.
And those are the only two problems this movie has.
Serenity is everything Star Wars never was, and never could be. It’s a hugely impressive space opera that manages to cram in love stories, epic space battles, strange markets and hover-cars, while at the same time paying tribute to Mad Max, Blade Runner and even Star Wars. All in some two hours.
Here’s my six stars, and sometime next year: my bucks for buying the Firefly DVD set.
Having just finished a comment over on the Binary Bonsai, I noticed a new icon pop up. It looked remarkably like an “Edit” icon.
And what do I discover? It is! A clever gent called Andrew has written a Wordpress plugin that allows you to edit your comments for 30 minutes after posting it. Bloodly brilliant! I cannot wait for the kinks to be worked out of this one. I’ve wanted it for so long.
Announcing the availability of my visual theme for Wordpress for public consumption.
Once again, Christmas is upon us. Once again the message of love and closeness to family and friends is betrayed by greedy corporations seeking to cash in on an increasingly commercial image of christmas.
I have made up my mind. This Christmas I want no part of it. I will make this my “spend-as-usual” month. Already now I have deals in place with friends and family that make sure presents are given only to kids and babies. It suits me fine.
Then again, it may help that I’ll be going to Malaysia, Tioman Island, the 20th, and not return until next year. In any case, have a merry and hopefully un-stressed Christmas!
