Textile Live Preview (AJAX Version) adds a realtime preview to your comment field. It allows commentators to preview what their comment will look like, with Textile support and everything.

This version, updated to 1.0 because the old version was reasonably stable, has a bugfix that fixes a problem with escaping of certain characters.

Textile Live Preview (AJAX Version) is a Wordpress plugin which gives you a live preview of a comment as it’s being typed. This preview will feature accurate Textile syntax. The plugin is just a packaging of Jeff Minards excellent script, as such, the bulk of the credit belongs to him.

Finally packaged and released, this plugin should be as simple as “upload folder and activate”.

Compared to the previous Textile Live Preview plugin, this AJAX version should be:

More accurate
More stable
Work with strict mode XHTML

It’s also a tiny bit slower, but personally I prefer this.

Known bug: An error that breaks the live preview when an anchor link is written ( for instance). It seems to affect all browsers but Internet Explorer and Webkit. You can always go with the non-AJAX version if this annoys you.

Based on fantastic work by Jeff Minard, I’ve packaged his Live Preview w. Textile script into a Wordpress plugin.

Download Live Preview w. Textile v. 0.2 Plugin for Wordpress (Updated April 24th)

Version 0.2: Fauna Beta 5 no longer has built-in support. Now Textile Live Preview should work with ANY Wordpress theme, without native support. (That also means it’s still just upload and activate if you’re using Fauna).

Version 0.1: Fauna has built-in support. Simply upload and activate the plugin.

Note: This is a rather temporary plugin. The best option would be for Textile support to be added into Jeff’s far superior Live Preview Plugin. Unfortunately, I have neither the skill nor time to do this. So please, if you’re a wiz with PHP, consider doing so. Fauna will support the regular Live Preview plugin (which in the future will hopefully support textile), soon enough.
