Fauna 1.0, The Final Version Approaching [Update 2]

We’ve made great headway in ensuring stability in the latest versions of Fauna. So much in fact, that we’re close to releasing the long-time-coming 1.0. We have decided to wait until the release of Wordpress 2.3, due to some of the changes that release will contain.

That also means Fauna 1.0 Final will be Wordpress 2.3 and newer only!

For users stuck on Wordress 2.1 and up to 2.2.3, you can download version 1.0 r103 from Google Code. That version will work on 2.1 to 2.2.3, but not on 2.3. The main difference should be how Faunas “smart categories” are handled.

[Update]: You can now download Fauna 1.0 r112. It’s a Wordpress 2.3 compatible build with tags and fixes and unless new bugs crop up, this will become the final version.

[Update 2]: 1.0 r114 is now available for download.

Textile Plugin Moved To Wordpress Plugin Directory

The Textile Live Preview (AJAX version) plugin for Wordpress has been moved to it’s own page in the Wordpress plugin directory. There are several benefits:

Wordpress.org has better up-time than this site.
It’ll share the hall of many other great plugins.
It’s located in a neat and tidy SVN repository, so it’ll be easy for someone else to pick up and take over development. (Interested?)

Note: Textile Live Preview (Ajax Version) has also been translated to polish.

Fauna RC on Wordpress 2.1 & Fauna RC2 [Update 3]

This is just a quick update to settle a few issues with Fauna RC and the recently released Wordpress 2.1. Some people have been experiencing problems with this combination. While we aren’t quite sure what causes this, here are some possible solutions:

~~Copy all your customized options to notepad, then click “Delete options”, then fill in the options again.~~
~~Try going to Manage > Categories, edit your asides category, rename the Slug to sidenotes, save, and then rename it back to asides.~~
Update 2: Simply create a category called “Sidenotes”. This issue will be fixed in RC2, very soon. (Thanks Adam)

Please let me know if you’ve been experiencing this problem, what you did to fix it, or what else info you can supply. In the meantime, work on Fauna RC2 is slowly being started. I have a feeling this theme will be Wordpress 2.1 only, moving on to some of the newer, optimized functions and features. I’ll also be making tiny changes to accomodate custom style authors.

Update 3: You can now check out a nightly build of Fauna RC2 from Google Code in which this problem is fixed. If you’re not ready to upgrade, you can grab only the single file that has been changed: index.php.

faunalive RC!

Good news for users of Fauna RC. The favourite Fauna addon, “faunalive”, providing a live and dynamic Flash header replacement has been updated to be RC compatible. The update includes a lot of other optimizations and cleanups, so if you like faunalive, go get the new version!
