Fauna: The Road Ahead

Things have been quiet in Fauna land. I hope for this to change soon. Here’s what’s new, and what’s going to happen.

* The current release is Beta 5. There will be two more releases: RC(Release Candidate) and Final.
* Once final is released, I will release a “Hackers” version of Fauna which contains no options page, and l10n translation hooks.
As the name (any better suggestions?) suggests, Fauna for Hackers is intended for those of you who intend to download it once, and hack it into your own theme.
* When final, I will be adding screenshots to this page, something several people have asked for.
* There will also be a Fauna CSS Style directory containing plug-and-play styles specifically created for Fauna, such as Darkfrost.
* In addition to Darkfrost, a new CSS Style for Fauna is being finalized. Beautiful work from MacManX translates into Frost, a cool and refreshing style.
* Levi will be joining the team and help squash bugs for RC. Personal thanks and welcomes.
* A new Textile Live Preview (AJAX) plugin is on it’s way. It works for strict XHTML, and should be more precise. More importantly, it only updates after you’re done typing a sentence, so when writing long pieces, it won’t slow down. For an example, view the live preview on my main blog, Noscope.
* I have been unable to actively partake in the forum lately, but don’t let that hold you from posting questions, comments, suggestions and bugs. I will be going through the forum as part of the RC bugfixing process.
* Once there is a final version, I hope to cooperate with the Wordpress.com administrators to bring them a final version.

That’s about it. I hope you’re still enjoying Fauna, because if I get it my way, the best is still to come.

    Thanks for the link, Joen! I have received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback regarding my current implementation of Frost, so I plan to package up the style and release it as soon as I can find time to clean up the mess that I’ve made out of the CSS.

    Well if you can WIDGETize your FAUNE it would be very cool !!
    WIDGET are definitly the best way to customize themes!

    However i experiment problem with sidebar that dont show (even right or left selected)

    WAzz, according to the features list, Fauna has supported “WordPress Widgets” since the release of Beta 5.

    Fauna is supposed to validate. I have encountered one or two pages when building the RC version (particularly category and archive pages) that didn’t validate, but that’s all fixed. What have you encountered, that did not validate?
