Changes Coming in Beta 2

Fauna Beta 1 was a fairly stable package, and has seen an adoption rate that makes me proud.

Here are some of the changes/additions/fixes I expect to make in Beta 2.

  • Create a clever and elegant solution to pages with blank sidebars
(Stay tuned! I think it’ll work just fine)
  • Various bugfixes (See list)
  • Wordpress 2.0 Compatability
I can’t say whether it’ll be backwards compatible to Wordpress 1.5. I’d like it to, but no promises.
  • New plugin support:
    - Many people have asked for Ultimate Tag Warrior support. This is on the top of my list.

    - Gravatar, possibly Comvatar, not sure yet how to combine this with Favatars. You suggestions?

    - Livesearch, probably

    - Live Archives in some form, probably

    - A few more
  • Textile Live Preview plugin released
Although it’s a preliminary version. Ideally, Textile support is added to the existing live preview plugin, but more on that later.
  • Feed icon adoption
Mike Goodspeed suggested that Fauna use the new standard feed icons, instead of using “RSS” or “XML” text. I like the idea, and I think I’ll do it.
  • Various minor improvements based on user feedback

  1. These seems all very good to me! There’s enough material there for more than one release, though, so take it easy and enjoy the beginnings of the new year with calm.

I think ironing out bugs and WP2 compatibility woudl be the more pressing issues, the other ones will add much welcome functionality to Fauna but probably also bring along some more bugs.

Anyway, I will follow with great interest the evolution of Fauna: thank you for your hard and loving work!

    Sounds great :-)

  3. Looking forward to next release this theme is a definate keeper in this corner of the web

  4. So, Joen, how soon? And do you want beta testers on WP2, ‘cos I’ve upgraded…

  5. So, Joen, how soon?

I have some days off. If I’m feeling worked up, maybe this week. Maybe next week. Maybe the week after that. I want to get this finished soon, so.

And do you want beta testers on WP2, ?cos I?ve upgraded…

Well, maybe. I’ve already upgraded my fauna dev site to WP 2, strangely enough completely without problems at all. Everything is working dandy. In fact, what I need is bug reports on what problems people are experiencing when upgrading to WP 2 and running Fauna. I’ve heard about problems with Noteworthies and Sidenotes, but other than that…

  6. Ultimate Tag Warrior support…nice work Joen. I can not help crying:P

  7. I have now released Fauna Beta 2. Unfortunately, I didn’t keep all my promises with regards to these changes.

    • Live Search is a fairly immature plugin, in my opinion. Adding support in fauna increases the level of complexity, so I chose not to do it this time around. I may do it in the future.
    • Live Archives has problems with Wordpress 2.
    • I haven’t gotten around to adding feed icons yet. I might still do it. For now, it says “RSS” instead of “XML”.
